This is a huge result for our team and everyone who helps us along the way. NZ Home Loans Offshore has achieved a podium finish in every championship we have entered for three consecutive years!
Once again, a huge thank you to all who have made this season such a success for our team, this result is solely due to our reliability record of which is a testament to our sponsors.
NZOPA 2016 Season Awards were held in Rotorua recently, where NZHL Racing managed to pick up a couple of additional and unexpected awards.
Super Boat Lite Championship – 3rd NZHL Racing
To get 3rd in this championship was a huge achievement for our team, with no class to suit our boat we had to race against bigger more powerful boats on courses which better suited our competitors.
Our crew drove the propellers off our little boat to mix it with the bigger boys and with our exceptional reliability we achieved a result which no one thought we could achieve.
A huge thank you has to go out to our mechanics Marineworkz and our boat builders Boat Fix who ensured our reliability and performance.
Best Presented Boat – NZHL Racing
A tribute to the best signwriting company in NZ (based solely on my opinion), Jared and the boys from Onform Signs have looked after our team from day one.
They are the only signage company who can guarantee their signage remains intact on an offshore race boat even while fully submerged at 140kph.
Receiving “Best Presented Boat” is a direct tribute to their fantastic work.
Co-Driver of the year – Karl Wall (NZHL Racing)
“The Doctor” as we call him, Karl has been a huge contributor to our team bringing immense experience and a great attitude.
There is no way our team would have achieved so much this season without Karl on the team and having the NZOPA recognise his efforts and achievements was the icing on the cake for us.
Big Thing Award – Brett Haeger (NZHL Racing)
For service to the sport of Offshore Powerboat Racing - no idea how this happened, but honoured to have received it.
So the countdown is on for 2017 NZOPA Season and needless to say our efforts are in full swing (not necessarily going to plan, but definitely in full swing).
Our Race Shed is now complete and we are currently busy getting 3 x Super Boat 400’s race ready - with only 4 months to achieve full rebuilds on 2 of these boats we definitely have our work cut out for us.
Next Season will be the first season for the Super Boat 400 class so now we have our own class, our own championship and our own Trophy!
3 teams have signed up to give it everything they have on the water, all determined to win the “Lachlan Wall memorial trophy” in memory of Karl’s son Lachy.
We will be on the start line in Taupo (29th Jan) for round 1 of the 2017 NZOPA Season and the inaugural race for the Lachlan Wall memorial trophy.
